Hari Raya Haji is also known as Hari Raya Korban where it is celebrated 2 months after Aidilfitri, the 10th day of Zulhijah or the 12th month of the Muslim calender. It marks the end of the haj pilgrimage period( about two weeks).
One of the most important activity that a Muslim must do during this festivals is journey to the Holy Land of Mecca in Saudi Arabia to perform the haj. They must perform at least once a year depends on theirs desire and health. Upon completion, men earn the title of ‘haji’ and women earn the title of ‘hajjah’. They will pray in a very large group in front of the ‘Holy Stone’ and some were given the chance to go inside.
Sacrifices is is only perform by those affordable or wealthy Muslim where cow, lambs, goat and even camel were killed to present it to ‘Allah’ to show there immense faith which was pass down from Abraham. It was done with the proper religious rites after the congregational prayers, held in the early morning of Aidiladha which is done in the mosque compound. One third of the meat is given to the owner and the rest is distributed among the poor, relative and friends.
The meat that were obtained from the sacrifices is then cook and serve. It is almost same as the food serve during Hari Raya Aidilfitri but there is more meat during Haji where many types of ‘Rendang’ and ‘Kari’ can be seen.
